Tour Highlights:
Daily Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in San Jose in the early afternoon and direct transfer to your lodge in La Virgen de Sarapiqui near the border of Nicaragua.
Day 2: In the morning, you can choose a sport activity at Hacienda Pozo Azul: Mountain Biking, White Water Rafting, Canopy/zipline, rappelling, horseback riding. (Note: on this tour, only in Sarapiqui can you do biking or rafting. The other sport activities are possible in Arenal.)
Lunch at Hacienda Pozo Azul. Transfer to hotel.
Free Afternoon or optional activity (Rainforest walk or chocolate making demonstration at Tirimbina Reserve; Museum of Indigenous Culture and Tombs at Centro Neotropico Sarapiqui.)
After dinner, you can have an optional Bat Demonstration at Tirimbina Reserve.
Day 3: In the morning, you have a choice of a sport activity at Hacienda Pozo Azul. After lunch at Hacienda Pozo Azul, you will transfer to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui for a guided wildlife tour by boat on the Sarapiqui River.
Day 4: In the morning, you have a private transfer across the San Carlos Lowlands to Arenal. You will stop in the town of La Fortuna to catch glimpses of small town life and have lunch (on own). In the afternoon you relax at Tabacon Hot Springs & Spa. Enjoy the many thermal pools heated by Arenal Volcano, and optional spa treatments. In the evening, you have a buffet dinner and perhaps will see lava flowing down the volcano.
Day 5: Ready for more sports? In the morning you have a guided rainforest walk at Arenal Hanging Bridges. This environmentally sensitive complex of trails and suspension bridges brings you as close as you ever could hope to get to the birds, the flowers and the lush vegetation of the primary rainforest. From the bridges along the trail you can look down at the streams and rainforest canopy below and enjoy the view of Arenal Volcano. After lunch, you have a choice of one sport activity: canopy/zipline, rappeling, or a horsesback riding tour to La Fortuna Waterfall.
Day 6: Today you return to San Jose with a stop in Sarchi, the crafts capital of Costa Rica. You can buy wood and leather goods, jewelry, painted carts and leather rockers that can be boxed to take with you on the plane.
Day 7: Private transfer to the San Jose Airport for your trip home.
COST: $1795 per person in double occupancy ($295 single supplement) includes 6 hotel nights; 16 meals (6B,4L,6D); 3 sports activities; nature tour on the Sarapiqui River; Tabacon Hot Springs and guided Arenal Hanging Bridges Tour; naturalist guide/driver; airport and ground transfers.
